Friday the 13th: Sports and Horror

First, where the heck did the fear of the number 13 (Triskaidekaphobia) and the fear of Friday the 13th (Frigg triskaidekaphobia) originate from? Well no one really knows for sure, some say from the Babylonian Code of Hammurabi that lacks a 13th article, some Christians say Judas (the guy that betrayed Jesus) was the last disciple to sit down at the table during the last supper. The Persians believe that the twelve constellations in the Zodiac ruled the earth each for 1,000 years and once completed the sky would fall in chaos, leading to the Persian tradition of leaving ones house on the 13th to avoid bad luck. More concretely, on Friday, October 13th, 1307 the Knights Templar were ordered to be arrested by Philip IV of France. The Templars went underground in hiding, creating the Freemasons.

Thursday, April 12th 1934, the world record wind gusts were recorded at 231 MPH across the summit of Mount Washington late in the afternoon. That night, the wind mysteriously stopped.

Tupac Amaru Shakur was pronounced dead September 13th 1996, or is he still alive?

Astroid 99942 (apiophis) will make a close encounter with Earth on April 13th 2029, missing by only 18,000 miles. The asteroid is the size of the Rose Bowl , the impact would be the equivalent of 100,000 nuclear bombs.

1951, The Great Flood killed 24 people, destroying over 2 million acres in Kansas.

1964 Earthquake remains the largest in American history killing 131 people.

1992 Earthquake killed 2,000 in Turkey.

Al Capone was sentenced to life in prison.

Sports has been a different story, almost an exception to the rule. Friday the 13, 1934 Babe Ruth hits his 700th home run. Friday the 13th, and the 1946 the cursed Red Sox clinch the Pennant for the first time since 1918, 1984 Pete Rose reaches 4,000 hits.
