Reds breakaway from Bucs

Reds hurler Mat Latos notched his 8th win of the season after a rocky start. Latos went 5 innings giving up 2 earned runs on eight hits. Latos uncharacteristically fanned only three Astro batters and walking two.

The Reds provided enough run support to carry this winning Reds club to a five game winning streak.

Today's news is not that the Cincinnati Reds beat the Astros 8-3, but more importantly the Pirates lost to the Cubs 2-0 and finally giving the Reds a game and a half lead as well as some breathing room.

News of Votto's injury put this Reds club in a situation that they just had to win without him, hold on to what they worked so hard for long enough for him to return healthy; this club has done just that. With news that Votto had ditched his crutches and seems to be recovery on or ahead of schedule is a great sign as this club looks to reign victorious over the NL Central, and almost the entire National League.

Tonight the Reds look to extend their winning streak tonight at 8:05pm at Minute Maid park.

The Cubs will be trying to keep the Bucs at bay again tonight at 7:05pm in Pittsburgh.

  1. I sure hope they can hold on. Phillips has really stepped up since just before the all-star break.
