Joey Votto has been out for quite some time, since July 15th to be exact. In Cincinnati, fans follow Joey's day-by-day progress, lingering on every word on the subject, awaiting his return. Though the Reds have fared well enough without their All-Star first baseman.
Tonight Joey Votto started his rehab assignment just a few blocks away at 5/3rd Field, home of the Reds single-A affiliate Dayton Dragons. Joey drew a walk in his first professional AB since his injury. A few innings later the MVP struck out against the West Michigan Whitecaps pitcher Jeff Ferrell. The Whitecaps are the AL Detroit Tigers single-A affiliate.
Defensively, Votto played first base for the Dragons and got some time on the bag. Votto was later replaced but will be playing for the Dragons again tomorrow night against the Great Lake Loons. The Loons are affiliates of the L.A. Dodgers.
