Two More Weeks of Woes: Spring Training 2012

Two weeks left in Spring Training and the league is plagued with strains, stiffness, discomforts, and other seemingly misleading adjectives underscoring possibly serious injuries. Go to any baseball website, forum, or blog and you’ll see it; speckled all over the web like some sort of rash. Teams leaking rumors of their ace starters or star shortstops being shut down for a strain on his this or a discomfort in his that. We have heard such phrases as “Ready for season”, “Out for season”, “Ready for Opening Day”, and “Shutdown” more times in one day than a year’s worth of “would you like fries with that?”

Simply take a sample of the last ten days of Spring Training and some of the headlines we have seen; you might have seen heartbreaking stories that made you think the season was lost, or that all has been saved by a cortisone shot. Headlines like these:

CHIPPER DONE AFTER 2012
SANTANA WILL BE SET FOR OPENER
ROBERTSON: I’LL BE READY FOR OPENER
CHIPPER: I DON’T KNOW IF I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH THIS YEAR
